2016 Mid Atlantic Underclass Showcase
Kieran Versaw-Barnes is a 2019 RHP/SS with a 5-8 135 lb. frame from Elkins Park, PA who attends Cheltenham High School. Young, athletic frame with square shoulder and a lean, projectable frame with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.51 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, simple side step moving into delivery, works quick and does a nice job of getting tall on backside. Short and quick arm circle through the backside working to a high three-quarters arm slot, generates nice extension out front and plane to the bottom of the zone with fastball. Topped out at 84 mph and maintained well, effort at release with solid running life to the arm side, gets the lower half incorporated well, able to get solid a sound amount swings and misses with fastball. Throws both a slider and changeup for strikes, tight spin on sider at 69 mph, downward tumble on changeup at 74 mph. Shows athleticism in the middle infield too, fields the ball out front, funnels well with an extra step at release, short and quick arm with carry out of the hand and present arm strength, athletic and balanced charging in. Righthanded hitter, begins with a narrow and upright stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Loads hands back at start of swing, upper body dominant with a contact approach at the plate. Line drive swing plane through the zone, shows timing to swing and able to create sound carry off the barrel when squared up to the pull side. Very good student. Named to Mid Atlantic Underclass Top Prospect List.
