Ian Groves is a 2017 C/OF with a 5-11 190 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends McNeil High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength throughout frame, has room to still grow stronger. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, side set up behind the plate, quick transfer out of glove, deeper takeaway and gets to a higher release point well, gets on top of throws and shows accuracy to the bag, gains some ground with lower half, 1.87 best pop, occasionally gets too quick with actions. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and gets closed moving into contact, medium hand set to start. Employs a high leg lift trigger at start of swing, short path to the ball with a lien drive swing plane. Patient approach with intent to swing, line drive contact coming off the barrel with occasional lift out front, on time with trigger and shows sound bat speed through the zone. Good student. Named to South Top-Top Prospect List.
