Caleb Reyes is a 2018 C/3B/1B with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Encino, CA who attends Birmingham HS. Medium frame an athletic build. Projects for additional strength. Right handed hitter with a spread, straight stance and high back elbow set. Loads with a slightly wrapped start. Hands and lower half launch with rotational actions to contact. Mid-field approach with a naturally lifted swing path. Swings with intent to lift the baseball deep to the gaps. Flashed solid bat speed and strength at contact when barrel and trigger were on time. Worked out defensively from behind the plate, infield and first base. From behind the plate shows compact, athletic actions throughout transition. Quick, compact arm action that results in very accurate on line throws. Moves well to both sides with fundamental block skills. From the infield show a quick arm cirlce at separation with a compact arm action through extension. Clean, smooth paced glove to hand exchanges while working through extension. Fundamental glove skills while funneling ground ball out front with developing range to each side. From first base showing same fundamental glove skills with quick, clean exchanges while working into throws. Throws were accurate with on line carry from a three-quarters arm slot. Athletic footwork while working off the bag and setting up to receive throws from infielders. Smooth, athletic actions while charging slow roller. Grades best as a catching prospect at this time. Tools will continue to improve with physical maturity and repetition. Very good student as well.
