Christian Lopez is a 2018 OF/LHP/1B with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Hialeah, FL who attends Mater Academy Charter HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and nice present strength proportioned throughout frame. Primary outfielder, shows nice arm speed and present arm strength on throws out of the hand, nice carry to intended base and works through the ball well with lower half. Graded out higher as a lefthanded pitcher in this look. Begins delivery with a high leg kick and has a slight pause at balance point, stays tall on backside and keeps weight back before drive to the plate with solid directionality. Smooth delivery and repeatable mechanics, works to a high three-quarters arm slot and generates downhill plane on fastball. Loose arm action, topped out at 85 mph with nice life to the arm side and heavy life down in the zone. Works both sides of the plate, does a nice job of maintaining arm speed on changeup with short fading life at 74 mph. Flashed a curveball with 1-7 shape with tight rotation and nice depth at 68 mph, served as a third pitch and could throw it more often. Lefthanded hitter, spread and upright stance in the box, high back elbow. Upper body dominant swing, shows an inside path with hands and gets the barrel to the ball, high contact approach and shows balance to swing while able to hit to all fields. Named to Main Event Top Prospect List. Good student.
