2016 Pitcher Catcher Showcase
Jack (John) Thelen is a 2017 C/1B with a 6-3 190 lb. frame from West Bend, WI who attends West Bend West HS. Tall frame with a lean, athletic build. Tall, straight stance with a high hand set and toe tap trigger. Rotational mechancis with a pullside approach. Likes the baseball on the inner half of the plate. Shows a slightly lofted swing path with good extenstion through the zone. Weight tends to fall to heels at times and restricts outer half plate coverage. Flashes barrel control and bat speed, hard hit ball up the middle during live session off 85mph. Behind the plate shows quick, soft footwork with a short arm circle and compact arm stroke. Produces plus on line carry with solid arm actions and whip. Tends to miss left of bag when front side lands open. Solid tool sets behind and at the plate. Will make a nice next level receiver. Good student as well. Named to 2016 Pitcher Catcher Top Prospect List.
