2015 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Ruben Fontes is a 2017 C/OF with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Bonita, CA who attends St Augustine HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders, long limbs and some additional room to fill out with added strength. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, shows sound catch and throw skills, pops out of crouch and gains some ground with lower half, full and whippy arm action with strength at release, gets on top of throws and comes out of hand well with accuracy. Leftt-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and has a high hand set and back elbow. Stays short to the ball with swing path, upper body swing and incorporates physical strength well into swing. Nice bat speed through the zone, opens front side early at times but creates steady contact to pull side and shows lift out front at contact. Excellent student.
