John Shields is a 2017 SS with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Tampa, FL who attends Plant HS. Medium athletic build with some length, plenty of room to get stronger. Left handed hitter, big leg lift trigger, gets it down on time, explodes his lower half well and develops very good bat speed, has some lift in his swing and power potential, middle of the field to pullside contact, carry off the barrel is impressive, has hitting tools to further develop. 6.54 runner, has athletic actions in the infield, fields the ball very cleanly with balance and soft hands, charges the ball well, arm strength is currently best for second base moving forward. Interesting middle of the field athlete with speed and power potential. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Alabama.
