2015 West Coast Underclass Showcase
Sam Gonzales is a 2018 C/UT with a 5-9 165 lb. frame from Gilbert, AZ who attends Perry. Medium, sturdy build with developing present strength and athleticism, projects well physically. Right handed hitter, high hands set with even stance. Leg lift trigger, stays short to the ball and is strong through contact. Pulls hands though well, flashes bat speed with slightly uphill swing plane, shows loft of the barrel with some carry to the gaps. Most consistent hard contact to the middle of the field. Primary catcher, wide base at setup, quick transfer to a compact arm-action, can get too tall at release, popped as low as 2.07 seconds. Also worked out in the infield, accurate throws across the diamond, showed best on slow roller when more aggressive to the ball. Also participated in outfield drills, gets on top of the ball, could utilize more lower half in throwing mechanics. Nice, loose arm-action with developing arm strength. Good student.
