Brian Ackerman is a 2008 RHP/OF/3B from Clearwater Catholic in Oldsmar, FL, with a 5'7'', 155 lb. frame. He has a young body and young face and hasn't started to physically mature yet. Ackerman has a slow, deliberate delivery and stays on line well to the plate. His arm action is loose and easy and he throws from a standard 3/4's release point. Ackerman's fastball was 70-73 mph and he turns almost every fastball over for sinking action away from left handed hitters. His curveball was 62 mph and had a big break with some downer action to it. Ackerman threw a couple of 66 mph change ups that could have just been lower velocity fastballs with the same fading action. He did a good job of throwing strikes and letting hitters get themselves out. As a pitcher Ackerman is waiting for more strength to kick in and his velocity go up, as he has good pitching skills. Ackerman also played some outfield and showed good athletic actions and fundamentals on defense. He's a 7.85 runner. More strength will help him at the plate as well as on the mound. Ackerman is an excellent student.
