Bruns is a very athletic 6-0, 170 lb junior left handed pitcher/outfielder from Houston. He's listed as a primary left handed pitcher and that's what the scouts we talked to seem to think of him as, but we're not sure he might not be a better long range prospect as an outfielder. Bruns arm strength on the mound is obvious right away. He's consistently 85-87 mph on his fastball and it looks quicker because of his quick arm stroke and delivery. Bruns opens early on his release, which left most of his fastballs up in the strike zone, but he was tough to hit when he pitched down as his fastball was heavy and had lots of life. Bruns curveball was sharp and tight at 73 mph with good downer action. He tended to slow his body down on his 76 mph change up. Harnessing his present stuff and learning to pitch down in the zone consistently looked like the major areas Bruns needed to work on as a pitcher. As a position player, Bruns has a complete package of tools. He's a 7.00 runner who is a plus base runner with aggressiveness and instincts. He shows the same type of instincts and aggressiveness as a centerfielder and his 86 mph arm strength makes him a plus defender. At the plate, Bruns was one of the top two or three hitters at the showcase. He has plus bat speed and excellent flow and rhythm to the ball. He showed his extra base power both during games and during batting practice and made hitting look pretty easy and natural. One more thing on Bruns side is that he plays the game at 100% all the time and looks like he's having a lot of fun doing it. He's an outstanding student and a national level follow.
