Robert Johnson is a 2007 C from Issaquah HS, residing in Issaquah, WA, with a 5'10", 165 lb. frame. He has a lean athletic build. Johnson showed excellent catch/throw skills in both the workout and the games. His pop times were consistent in both scenarios, from 2.10-2.15 and on the bag accurate. He has a quick arm and quick feet to go with a quick/clean exchange. Johnson has good flexibility and is able to sit low and present a nice target to throw to. He receives well and is particularly good at sticking the low pitch that so many catchers drag out of the strike zone. He keeps strikes in the zone and give the umpire a very good look at the ball. Johns runs pretty well and shows off athletic actions behind plate. At the plate Johnson hits from a square stance and displays good balance in his swing and a quiet offensive approach. He has good present day bat speed that will increase with more strength in the coming years. Johnson keeps his hands back well and handles both the fastball and breaking ball. He takes an aggressive swing but remains a good contact hitter with the ability to battle in each at-bat and make the pitcher work to get him out. He has lively hands and good oppo drive ability. It appears that Johnson is going to hit, potentially for a high average. He is a strong '07 follow for most D1 programs and should be as a catch and throw backstop with strong offensive abilities.
