Daniel Barnes is a 2007 RHP with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Manhasset NY, who attends Manhasset HS. He has a medium athletic build with some strength projection and good present lower half strength. Barnes has a live arm with very good arm speed. He has a medium effort delivery and tends to open early to the plate, but stays consistent in his mechanics and 3/4's release point. Barnes fastball was steady at 86-88 mph and heavy down in the strike zone. He worked the inside corner well, which you like to see in a young pitcher, and topped out at 91 mph on his fastball. Barnes best off speed pitch was a 75 mph change up that he showed good feel for. He mixed in a few 74 mph curveballs that showed potential as well. Barnes had a good feel for pitching and knew what he was doing on the mound. He's an excellent student who will be attending Princeton and he should be very successful at that level.

Barnes pitches from a 3/4 arm slot and has a long arm action. He has a quick arm with good looseness. Barnes uses a drop and drive style delivery and throws with effort. He finishes to the 1b side and occasionally would open up a bit early. He throws an 11/5 curveball with good break and tight spin. It has the potential to be a plus pitch. His 2 seam fastball has good armside run and occasional sink. Barnes pushes his change-up a bit but gets sink on it. He works quick and has a fast delivery. Barnes showed good poise and control in his outing at this event. Barnes is a high level propect and is also an outstanding student.
