James Williams is a 2016 C/RHP with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Kennesaw, GA who attends Harrison HS. Medium, athletic build with broad shoulders, solid present strength and overall athleticism. Versatile defensive player, primary catcher. Low crouch set, good receiver of the ball, has a quick exchange and compact arm-action. Popped a 1.90 in defensive drills. Also plays infield, profiles at third base with good arm strength, carry on throws. Right handed hitter, open stance with wide base, closes off well, small leg lift timing trigger. Swings hard and has some bat speed, gets off balance at times. Flashes ability to get extended, hit some balls sharply to pullside. Also pitches, uses simple side step into leg lift delivery, slight hunch over frontside, maintains solid balance. Fastball up to 86 mph, able to throw strikes with offering. Changeup shows some deceptive action, repeats armspeed well. Rare soft curveball with 11/5 shape. Excellent student, verbal commitment to University of Georgia.
