Zachary Leighton -- Leighton is a tall, angular junior shortstop from California with some good present tools and room to get stronger. He showed average big league running speed underway and had some bounce to his actions in the field. Leighton’s arm strength is deceptive if you look at the velocity readings; he has a short arm stroke and quick release and doesn’t gun it across the infield. He can throw plenty well enough, though. Leighton hits from a tall stance with his hands high with a flat line drive swing. He had a well above average number of hard hits in batting practice and added a couple more during games. Leighton collapses his back side some, which takes away some power, but he has obviously strong bat head coordination. Leighton is a good student as well. Could end up being a highest level college player.
