Tyler Sample is a 2008 RHP with a 6'7'', 220 lb. frame from Elizabeth, CO who attends Mullen HS. He has an extra large, tall frame with the chance to get really strong as he gets older. Sample throws from a simple delivery and uses his height well to maintain a downhill angle to the plate. Sample's arm is loose and fluid and the ball comes out of his hand easily. He repeats his delivery well for a young pitcher his size. Sample's curveball flashes nice 12/6 downer bite at times and he shows nice feel for his change up and gets some sinking action. Sample had Tommy John surgery as a sophomore and is just getting back to full strength, which makes his performance here more impressive. There is nothing obvious in his delivery and arm action that indicates arm stress. Sample projects as a future plus fastball pitcher and his secondary stuff looks promising as well. Scouts compared his overall package to Josh Johnson's and it is a good comp.
