Steven Whitaker is a 5'9" second baseman from Chesapeake, Virginia, with surprising strength for a wiry 2007 prospect. Whitaker hits from a narrow stance with high hand and bat position in his set up, but he gets everything moving smoothly towards the ball and ends up generating nice bat speed for a 145 lb. youngster. Whitaker looks like a confident and aggressive hitter who is going to keep improving. Defensively, Whitaker has quick feet and soft hands and looks like he’s received some solid coaching on how to approach ground balls. His arm strength paints him as a second baseman in the future and he has good tools and skills for the position.
