Shawn Smith is a 2006 RHP/3B from Racine, Wisconsin, with wide shoulders and a large, thick frame at 6'3", 220 pounds. He pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot, with a long, loose arm. He has a good arm action and gets slight movement on his 72-74 mph fastball. He has a decent curveball at 61 mph with an 11-5 break. He has long legs and needs to use his lower half more to gain velocity. At the plate, he hits from an open, narrow stance, and is a little bit late getting his stride foot down for contact, which costs him power. He has a big strong upper body, and he generates a lot of bat speed. He is a good student, with raw tools and size. With gains in strength and speed, Shawn will play a high level of college ball.
