Shane Hughes is a 2007 LHP/1B/OF from Alexander High School in Douglasville, GA, with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Hughes is a young lefty with good present arm strength. His fastball topped out at 84 mph with good arm speed and arm action. Hughes is tough on right handed hitter running his fastball in on their hands and then letting his fastball fade away from the right handed hitter low and away. He shows good control of his pitches, including a good changeup that he throws at 72 mph. Hughes maintains his good arm speed on his changeup and gets some fade and sink on the pitch. Defensively he has good actions at first base with nice, quick hands. Hughes is a young pitcher that should be followed next spring/summer to monitor his progression.
