Rolando Gomez is a 2008 MIF with a 5'9'', 160 lb. frame from Pembroke Pines, FL who attends Flanagan HS. He has a small framed build with lots of hidden wiry strength, especially in his hands and forearms. Gomez has been a high profile prospect for a long time because of his bat but his defense shouldn't be overlooked. He has outstanding hands and balance at shortstop and can make all the standard shortstop plays on the run and quickly. His double play turn is extra quick and he moves through the ball very well. Because of his slight frame and average arm strength Gomez is often "moved" to second base in evaluators minds but he's improved so much at shortstop we think this would be a mistake. Gomez' bat has always been a constant from the left side. He hits with a big load and coil and has very quick and snappy hands to the ball. His swing is easy and fluid and he drives the ball hard to all fields. Gomez will hit for a high average at all levels and he has surprising gap power. Gomez is just an outstanding all around player and one of the best middle infielders in the country. He has a verbal commitment to Miami.

Rolando Gomez is a 2008 MIF with a 5'9'', 150 lb. frame from Pembroke Pines FL, who attends Flanagan HS. He has a slender, athletic build with wiry strength. Gomez was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Gomez doesn't look any bigger or stronger than when we last saw him but he was outstanding in Fort Myers. His defense was exceptional. Gomez showed excellent balance and hands and played with big league feel working through the ball. He doesn't have a cannon arm but Gomez does everything so easily and quickly at shortstop that he is rarely called on to air out his throws. Offensively, Gomez has extra quick wrists and easy bat speed and can handle high velocity pitching without any problem. He has power when he wants it but also shows the ability to keep his swing short and line balls to the gaps. He's a polished hitter with an advanced approach. Gomez also ran 6.64 in the 60. He's a top level national prospect who looks like he's getting better and better! Gomez is also a good student.

Rolando Gomez is a 2008 left hand hitting middle infielder from Flanagan HS, residing in Pembroke Pines, FL. Named a Top Prospect at this event. Gomez has a 5'9" 150 lb. frame and a lithe, lean build on a body that is still maturing. Regardless of how big or physical he becomes, he is an impact player, the type of player that is present on teams that win at a very high level. He understands how to play the game and plays with feel and ease. Offensively Gomez is a hit machine. He has plus plus hands and hits to all fields, displaying natural hitting instincts. The game seems to slow down for him when he is in the box. Gomez is relaxed and has a very good trigger. His bat is quick and he maintains his bat speed through contact. His body works well and he stays balanced throughout the swing. Presently he is a line drive, spray hitter. Any future power will come from physical strength gains. Defensively he is also a tremendous player. He displays that natural feel for the game and does so without trying to be flashy. He is a slick defender with actions that come naturally and easily. Gomez' arm tracks well across the diamond and he has a quick release too. On the turn his hands are very quick and he is quite good around the bag. He has plus hands that work well at shortstop, where he is good, and at 2nd base, where he is a plus defensive player. There is little on the field that Gomez cannot do. He is an above average runner, is a plus defensive player, will hit for very high average and has a high baseball IQ. He is a top D1 prospect and with more physical development he should get some pro interest in the spring of '08.

Rolando Gomez is a 2008 MIF from Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, FL, with a 5'8'', 140 lb. frame. He was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Gomez is a lean and athletic player with good speed (6.85-60) and quickness on the bases and defensively. His quickness helps him show plus actions at shortstop with smooth fielding techniques. He has nice footwork and gets in great position to make the plays with plus body control. Gomez also has a quick arm with very good arm strength for his age. To round out his defensive game he has very soft hands and the ball disappears in his glove. He has high level defensive skills. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with very quick hands. He squares the ball well on every swing with a line drive swing plane. He has bat control and a good eye that will allow him to be a top of the order hitter at the next level. Gomez makes adjustments with his hands very well, especially for a 2008 hitter. He is very advanced for his age, and he has great upside. A must follow.

Gomez is a 5-8, 140 lb sophomore middle infielder from south Florida. He wasn't able to run at the showcase because of a foot injury but was showed a multitude of quick twitch muscles in every other aspect of his game and we're thinking that he's probably a very good runner. Defensively, Gomez played mostly second base but he has very good arm strength for his age at 81 mph and should be able to handle shortstop as well. He has very quick hands and transfers and has easy and relaxed actions defensively. Gomez is a left handed hitter with a rock back load and a knee lift trigger. He showed very good bat speed and an advanced ability to attack the ball on the inner half of the plate. Gomez hit some sharp line drives and impressed us his offensive approach. In fact, Gomez impressed us with just about everything he did on the field. He also comes from a baseball family and knows how to play. Excellent follow who should keep improving!
