Michael Meintel is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Shadyside HS, residing in Shadyside, OH. He has a broad, developed body and appears bigger and stronger than his listed 6'2" 195 lb. dimensions. Meintel showed good raw arm strength and the makings of quality secondary stuff to earn a #72 ranking among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot with a long arm action. Meintel has decent body control but mostly throws with his arm. He opens his front side pretty early, clearing his hips and letting his arm, which has decent arm speed, do the rest. There is some effort in that delivery, but his body handles it well. He worked vertically with his upper-80s fastball, pitching up and down in the zone, which can change the eye level of a hitter, an effective way to use a fastball. He touched 90 so there is some arm strength and with a more compact delivery, he might even throw harder. Meintel has a 69-72 mph curveball that has some decent spin, though being able to hold the ball a bit longer will add a significant amount of action on that pitch. His third pitch was a 79 mph change-up and worked as a show-me pitch. Meintel is still working to develop those secondary pitches and has a chance to develop them into usable offerings if he can make a delivery adjustment that will create more extension for release. What he did particularly well was to pitch with his fastball and that is a very good thing for a young pitcher to be able to do. He is a D1 college prospect with the potential to develop into a pro prospect.

Michael Meintel is a 2007 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Shadyside, OH with a solid build and a strong lower half at 6-2, 190 lbs. Mike shows outstanding ability for a 2007. He has a good strong pitcher's body and some good mound presence. He throws with some effort and with a deceptive delivery. He repeats his delivery very well. His fastball sits at 84-86 with very good movement. He also shows a good slider at 78 mph with 11-5 rotation and good depth and sharp bite. His change has become a very good pitch at 79 MPH with nice sinking action, deception and arm-side movement. He is well advanced for his age and is a serious draft candidate or DI recruit in 2007 if he continues to develop. He has excellent arm strength and should end being a 90 mph guy with three pitches.

Michael Meintel is a Class of 2007 right handed pitcher from Shadyside, OH, who should have a very bright baseball future. He appears taller than his listed 6'0" height right now and looks like he has plenty of growing left to do. Meintel’s pitching mechanics are pretty raw right now, particularly in getting good downhill plane to the plate, but that doesn’t keep him from showing excellent arm strength. Meintel pitched consistently in the 84-85 mph range and showed good powerful spin on a low 70’s curveball that could become a big strikeout pitch for him at the next level. Meintel also mixed in a couple of 71 mph change ups. Another thing that we liked about Meintel was that after a rough stretch in the middle of his three inning appearance, he settled right down and struck out three of the last four hitters with some sharp pitches. We like seeing that type of maturity on the mound in a sophomore at a big showcase. Meintel’s a good one who we look forward to seeing often over the next few years. The sky is the limit.

Mike is a solid, strongly built 6-0/185 lb. "freshman" right handed pitcher/3B from Shadyside, Ohio. He shows advanced ability for a 2007 high school graduate. He has a bulldog mound presence and impressively goes right after hitters. His mechanics are somewhat raw with a little too much head tilt, but he has a good idea of what he is doing on the mound. His fastball sits at 84-85 with very nice arm-side run. He also shows a nice tight slider at 72-75mph with good depth and lots of sharp bite. His change is also a promising pitch at 73-75MPH with sink, deception and arm-side movement. He is well advanced for his age and is a serious pro prospect for 2007 if he continues to develop. Michael is a good student.
