McCrea is a right-hander on the mound that also showed some hitting ability as a 1B. He came from a high three quarter arm slot that varied to an over the top angle at times and he threw 2 pitches for strikes. His fastball was clocked in the 73-76 mph range and the curve was clocked between 60-63 mph. Both pitches needed to be sharp since they lacked Big League velocity. Most times he threw in on the hands of batters with success. As a hitter, McCrea showed a productive swing that was able to make consistent contact even with the away fastball as he went with the pitch. We liked him best on the hill. He has room to add strength to his 5'11/165 frame.
