McDaniel is a 6-2, 170 lb switch hitting junior catcher from Virginia with a slender build and developing physical maturity. He was a 7.59 runner in the 60 and threw 72 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 1.95. McDaniel showed good quickness behind the plate but will need to work on his receiving skills. He also played some first base at the showcase. Offensively, McDaniels shows a similar approach from both sides of the plate and has a bit better bat speed and strength from the left side. He has a short, contact line drive swing and centered the ball to the middle of the field from both sides. His strength is better suited to the metal bat right now but he should get stronger in the future. McDaniel also pitched a bit, throwing 80 mph from a low 3/4's slinging arm action. McDaniel is a good student.

Matthew McDaniel is a 2007 catcher/infielder from Woodbridge, Virginia, with a young and projectable body at 6'2", 180 pounds. He is a switch hitter with a wide base and a short stride. He has a nice lofted swing plane with a high two handed finish. He showed good bat speed, and he hits hard line drives to all fields. He is a contact type hitter with present gap strength and the potential to hit for big power from both sides of the plate. He ran a 5.68 home to first. Defensively, he has a good set-up with quick, fluid actions. He has quick feet and he moves well to both sides with good blocking skills. He showed a strong arm at 76 mph with good accuracy, and popped a very good 1.91and he will only get better as he matures and gets stronger. He has a chance to be a high level prospect for 2007. Matthew is also a very good student.
