Marcel Champagnie- SS- Brother Andre, Bolton, ON- 5'11"/180. He ran a 6.44 sixty, and showed his very quick hands defensively. He didn’t get any defensive opportunity until the 14th inning. Marcel showed a quick bat, but he wasn’t as aggressive as he was a few weeks ago. His speed and defense will easily play at the professional level; his bat is the only question. He has Big League actions and tools. Probably the most athletic true shortstop in this draft. Could go fairly early, but chances are he won't be drafted as high as he should. It will be very interesting to see where Marcel is 5 years from now.

Champagnie is a 5-11, 180 lb shortstop from Canada. He’s 19 years old and a 13th year student in the Canadian school system. We had never seen Champagnie before and he was one of the most exciting “new” prospects that we’ve seen in a long time. This kid is a big time prospect and there are a lot of scouts who have seen him in the past and missed him. All of Champagnie’s tools are big league quality but his fielding skills were the most impressive. He has incredibly quick hands, excellent acceleration to the ball and the ability to throw hard and accurate from all arm angles and on the run. He made one play charging the ball in a game that had everyone shaking their head and he comes across the bag on double plays like a big leaguer. Champagnie is a 6.59 runner who got down to first base on one ground ball in 4.09. He hits from a tall stance with busy, low hands and a short, quick swing. He showed good power to right centerfield and centered up on just about every ball he swung at in BP and against live pitching. There really isn’t anything we saw that Champagnie can’t do on the baseball field and he had a confidence and style to his game that was a big plus, too. Top Prospect!!
