Day is a sophomore catcher from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is one of the better sophomore catchers we have seen in the entire Midwest at his age. He is a 6 foot tall and has a strong looking and athletic body. He can swing the bat with authority and showed several good hitting traits. He hits Left-handed and showed good bat-speed and a nice overall swing. He is quick to the ball, with good power and there is a lot of potential for more to come. He did show a lack of full extension, but it did not seem to affect the way the ball jumped from his bat. Initially he was swinging slightly around the ball, but he made the adjustment quickly and really hit the ball hard to all fields in the end. He is a real talented sophomore left-handed hitter that we plan to follow closely. As a catcher we again liked what we saw. He is athletic behind the plate, showed good footwork and even ran a laser timed 7.4 in the 60, very good for a sophomore catching prospect. He has a good strong arm and used it well from the catching position. We clocked his throw down to second base at 77 mph and he showed pop times ranging from 1.93 to 1.99 with a short and fast arm. He showed a slight pause between his front foot plant and his release and we think that he will have even better times when he cocks and unloads the ball in a faster rhythm. He has nice soft hands and he was able to handle a variety of pitches easily with a good frame and proper technique. This is one very good sophomore that will grab lots of attention from division 1 colleges. He has a chance to elevate his game and be among the top catching prospects nationally, in his class. Keep a close eye on him.
