Kent Matthes is a 2005 3B/OF/RHP from Orlando, Florida, with a very strong and athletic build at 6'3", 205 lbs. Matthes showed his great arm strength during the workout throwing 94 mph with carry and accuracy. He has easy actions in the outfield, and has the speed and arm strength to play any outfield position. Matthes also showed his 90 mph arm strength in the infield with good range and solid 3B actions. The ball jumped off his bat during batting practice with very good bat speed and big time projectable power. He hits line drives with solid carry, and he still has room to get even stronger and better. With his combination of arm, raw power, speed, and athleticism, Matthes has the potential to be a high draft this June. It will all depend on how well he hits good live pitching. His body and tools are first round material. Kent is a good student.

Kent Matthes is a strong well built 6'3/195 OF/3B from Orlando, FL. Matthes put on his usual show during fielding drills, throwing 94 mph from the outfield and 91 from third base. There is no stronger arm in the country from the field, although for Matthes it doesn’t translate to the mound even though he did throw 87 from the hill in Tropicana. He runs well and shows 5 MLB ave tools. Matthes’ power at the plate is close to a plus MLB tool. Perhaps the only negative is that he does swing and miss a lot. He had some forward movement with his head and eyes that might have created some vision problems. Kent still remains a very highest level prospect both for colleges and MLB scouts. He's just too good to forget about. And he has the prototype MLB body. Kent is an excellent student. He was selected to the AFLAC All American Team.

Kent Matthes -- Matthes is a 6-3 physical specimen who ranks among the better junior prospects in the country in terms of raw tools. He plays a number of different positions well but he probably profiles out to third base in the future. Matthes has a cannon for an arm, throwing 91 mph from the outfield and 85 mph from the infield. Matthes has good feet and good quickness in the infield and with a little softening of the hands will be a top notch defensive third baseman. Despite his size, Matthes is an easy MLB average runner underway. Matthes ripped the ball in batting practice, showing well above average power potential with a quick, leveraged swing and very good extension. Matthes didn’t hit the ball as well in games as he lengthened his swing a bit and was pulling off trying to hit the long ball. He also threw 2 innings off the mound and showed a steady 84-86 mph fastball with good command and nice, quiet mechanics. Our bet is that he could throw much harder under different conditions and with more priority on pitching. He has a lean, very athletic pro style body that still projects for more strength. Kent is a strong student as well. He's going to create a lot of draft interest next year.

Kent definitely has some serious MLB tools! . He has a great athletic body and he ran, a 6.77 (on a slow track) in the 60yd. His infield actions were good, but we really like him most in the outfield. His athletic ability and plus arm are well suited for the professional game as an outfielder. He shows outstanding hitting ability with big power potential down the road. Also pitches, but he's much too good of an athlete to end up pitching. A top national "05" SS/OF prospect with a very bright future. Good student too!

Good, big, athletic "05" OF/IF/P. Will end up being a plus runner. Strong arm from both IF and OF. Long and loose! Good bat speed and power potential. We like him on the mound. 83 fastball with life, will get much better. Showed a nice changeup. Watch him closely!
