John Ciepiela is a 2006 C/IF/P from Eldorado HS in Albuquerque, NM, with a 6'1", 200 lb. frame. Ciepiela is a versatile player who has good all-around skills. He has a strong body and ran a very good 7.17 sixty on a slow track. Defensively he does a good job blocking balls behind the plate with quick feet and good lateral movement. He has good receiving skills that showed better in the showcase games. At the plate the right handed hitter makes solid contact with good bat speed. Ciepiela has a balanced swing with good leverage that helps produce present raw power. He could develop some big time power at the next level with his solid hitting mechanics. On the mound he threw from a 3/4 arm slot with a nice and easy delivery. He has good arm speed and his fastball topped out at 78 mph, and mixed in a 62 mph breaking ball. Ciepiela has the chance to be a good hitting/fielding catcher at the next level and needs to be followed. He is also a very good student.
