John Bivens is a Col OF with a 6'1'', 210 lb. frame from Disputanta, VA who attends Virginia State U.. 22 years old, former U.Virginia linebacker, outstanding physical build. Restarted baseball career this spring after long layoff. Impressive skills/instincts, simple crisp line drive swing, stays short to the ball, nice balanced open to closed stance, good bat speed with power. 6.63 runner, good actions in the outfield, quick jumps, arm strength playable. Impressive young man, definitely deserves shot at pro ball this year and is anxious for it. Could be the steal of this year's draft. One year of baseball eligibility remaining.

John Bivens is a 2006 outfielder from Disputanta, VA with a good body that shows strength at 6-1, 205 lbs. He's very fast and agile for his size and strength and ran the 60 in 6.78 and gets down to 1B in 4.35. Bivens has upper level right field arm strength, with a quick arm and quick release that produced 88 mph readings during outfield drills. Bivens hits out of a wide stance with no stride and a small leg lift trigger. He has very quick hands and the bat flies through the zone. Bivens has some lift in his swing and will shower power to all fields. He had some balance problems in Atlanta that we've seen at other times this summer that affected his performance and that he's working through, but the raw talent is there to be one of the top power hitting prospects in the country. Bivens is a very good student.

John is a young, exciting and athletic 6-1/195 lb. "sophomore" outfielder from Disputanta, Virginia. He could be one of the top 5 "2006" outfielders in the country. He has a well proportioned, athletic and strong body that immediately draws your attention. He shows fluid, smooth and strong movements from the field. He has Major League level arm strength at 88mph from the outfield. He hits from the left side from a strong base that is balanced through contact. He has a nice backside approach with loft in his swing and big time pro power potential. This one could develop into a high draft pick and he's one to follow closely for the next two years. John is a very good student.

John Bivens -- We’re told that Bivens has only been playing baseball seriously for a year and a half, but he really opened eyes with his talent. He’s a sophomore from Virginia with a powerful, broad shouldered body that is both strong and quick. Bivens hits from the left side from a no load approach. He keeps his hands back and hits the ball very hard to center and left center field. You can tell from his approach that he hasn’t had that many repetitions but you can also tell that he has outstanding natural talent. When he learns how to pull and take the bat head through the ball, he’ll be dangerous. Bivens ran a 7.17 in the 60 on a very slow spongy track in Ft Myers and showed big league game speed from home to first. His arm strength from the outfield is very good for his age and he profiles as a prototypical right fielder. Bivens enjoyment of the game is obvious from watching him and he’s done a great job of adapting baseball skills to his athletic talent in a short time. The pro scouts and major college coaches are going to really latch on to Bivens in another year or two.
