2005 Sunshine West Showcase
Jeff Butera is a 2007 outfielder from San Dieguito HS in Encinitas, CA, with a 5'11", 165 lb. frame. Butera is an athletic player with good speed and quickness. He ran a 7.22-sixty on a very slow track, and showed good first step quickness on the bases and in the outfield. Defensively, he has good range and has good arm strength and arm action for a sophomore. His throws were on-line with very good accuracy. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from an open stance. Butera showed good bat speed in batting practice with a slight loft in his swing. During the showcase games he didn't close off his stance as well as he did in batting practice and couldn't cover the outer third of the plate. Butera has the athleticism and strength in his swing to be a very good hitter if he can keep his front side closed longer. He is a young player with a good set of tools and should be followed. Butera is also an outstanding student.
