2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Jason Barth is a 2006 C/1B from San Pedro HS, residing in Rancho Palo Verdes, CA, with a 6'3", 215 lb. frame. He has a strong build that by most scouts would be characterized as a plus body. Barth hits from a square stance and showed the ability to make good, strong barrel contact. He was aggressive to ball, which exited his bat well. With his good bat speed, ability to find the barrel, and aggressiveness through contact, Barth has some raw power that should not be far from coming out on a consistent basis. At 6'3" his swing also has some leverage, another indicator of future power potential. Behind the plate his throws were generally on the bag. He took his time with his feet to make clean transfers, which allowed for those accurate throws. Barth showed flashes of blocking well and reactions that suit the catching position. He is big but showed the ability to get out of the crouch and make plays on pop-ups. First base should also be considered an option for Barth. His bat and body should draw follow interest.
