Jace Brown is a 2007 right hand hitting infielder from Cardinal Mooney HS, residing in Sarasota, FL. He has a very strong and athletically proportioned build on his 6'3" 185 lb. frame and would be characterized as a "good body" guy. Brown has some strong offensive abilities and should hit plenty of home runs in college, if he goes to school. He hits from a square stance and is clearly anxious to hit, with a lot of pre-pitch movement in the box. He makes an aggressive move into the pitch and his aggressivess can and will be an asset, though he will also get himself out sometimes on pitches he can handle with that approach. There clearly is some good life in his swing and he showed good pull side power. Brown is a timing hitter and will hunt pitches in certain zones and counts, a high reward approach that also comes with some downside. He does work to get behind the ball so when he makes good barrel contact he generally hits the ball quite hard. In the infield Brown showed pretty good actions and good hands with a near average arm. All his tools project best for 3B, though he did make some plays in the middle, showing particularly well on the double play turn. His arm works easy, it is just a matter of how much range he has up the middle when the game moves at a faster pace. Brown ran 4.65 home/1st and posted a laser timed 7.24 60. He is a good D1 prospect and it would not be surprising to see him get draft interest this spring, if he puts up big power numbers.

Brown is a 6-3, 180 lb. sophomore infielder from Florida. His dad, Marty Brown, is the Indians AAA manager and was named Minor League Manager of the Year in 2004 by Baseball America. Marty also managed a Perfect Game team at the showcase (he finished 1-1, we can’t fire a .500 manager yet). Brown has a very nice, well proportioned frame with long limbs that’s just beginning to gain strength. He has athletic actions and the kind of body life and speed (4.4 twice to first base from the right side) that makes it very easy to project him to get stronger and better. Brown hits from a wide stance with a toe tap trigger and good quick hands to the ball. He tends to reach and get out front pretty quickly but showed very good ability to center up on the ball. Brown picked up 4 hits in the two showcase games. When he starts developing his overall strength and learns to stay back a bit, Brown should start developing very nice power. Defensively, Brown showed very good range and moves smoothly for his size. His hands work well and his arm strength will improve as his body fills out. He profiles to third base down the road. Brown is also an excellent student with a 4.0+ grade point average in the classroom. Good Follow!

Jace Brown -- Brown is a young freshman infielder from Florida. He has a nice 6-1, 165 lb. frame that could get really strong over his high school years. Brown hits from a wide no load type of stance with a small toe tap trigger. He has a balanced swing and shows a strong ability to make consistent contact to all fields even at this age. Brown did turn on the ball well in batting practice, too. It looks like he’s going to be a very good hitter as he gets older and stronger. Brown has soft hands and actions and a projectable arm that’s going to get better and better. His foot speed will probably move him over to third base in the future, but then his physical development might do that anyway. Jace is an excellent "07" prospect with a great future. He's an outstanding student as well.

Wow, only an "07", but he has a nice looking swing and a good arm. He's a good player! Looked like the wood bat he used was a bit too heavy for his strength. He will hit and might become a prospect as a hitter. It will be interesting to watch him develop.
