Aaron VanAllen is a 2009 RHP with a 6'4'', 175 lb. frame from Danville, VA who attends Tunstall HS. He has a tall, thin build with minimal present strength. VanAllen has a full windup and delivery and lays his arm out full and early in back. His front side flies open early and he has a classic long, slinging arm action as his upper body drags his arm through. VanAllen pitched in the upper 70's and touched 81 mph. His fastball had very good life at times with consistent boring and sinking action. VanAllen's curveball varied in velocity between 63 and 68 mph, with the better quality pitches being at the higher velocities. When he develops a more consistent feel for his curveball it should be a good pitch for him. His arm action is consistent with throwing a slider. VanAllen worked quickly and threw strikes. He should get stronger over the next few years and gain some velocity.
