Evan Cox is a 2006 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Maumelle, AR with a medium build at 6-0, 180 lbs. He's one of the top two-way prospects in the country, although he looks like he'll be a primary pitcher at some point. Cox has a very fast arm stroke from a complicated and deceptive delivery that doesn't let hitters see the ball very well. He gets serious running action on a 90-91 mph fastball that seems to explode out of his hand at times. Cox's breaking ball was a 76 mph slurve that had tight spin and sharp breaking action. Cox doesn't project much as a pitcher with his build and mechanics but he has two present pitches and looks to be very difficult to hit. As a third baseman, Cox shows big time arm strength and good quickness on defense. He takes a full, aggressive swing at the plate and has bat speed and plus power potential. Cox is a hustling, all out type of player who coaches will always like. He is a good student and has signed with Arkansas.

Cox is a 6-0, 180 lb two-way prospect from Arkansas who really impressed us with his athletic ability and was given an invitation to the PG National Showcase as a result of his performance. As a pitcher, Cox shows very good arm strength from a very deceptive, max effort delivery. His mechanics look rough but Cox was able to throw strikes at most times and show his stuff. His fastball was 87-89 mph from a low 3/4's release point. Cox's breaking ball was a hard 74 mph curveball with tight spin and break and he also threw a 79 mph change up. As a third baseman, Cox combines both good defensive and offensive skills. His actions are smooth defensively and he has plenty of arm strength. He has very strong hands at the plate with excellent bat speed and above average college level power potential. Cox is aggressive both on the mound and at the plate and wants to beat you. We're not sure where he's a better prospect at now but he might well be the type of talent who can play all game at third base until he's called upon to come in to pitch in relief. Cox a very good student, as well.
