Cody Downing is a 2009 2B/SS/P with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame from El Paso, TX who attends Cathedral. Cody has a slender and athletic frame with some present strength and room for continued development. At the plate he hits from a solid balanced stance with his hands set at his shoulder. He has a flat swing path, and he swings it nice and easy. He flashes bat speed and has very good pitch recognition, and he will improve as he gains more strength. Defensively he is a slick fielder with good footwork and quick hands. His arm is accurate, he follows his throws and has some present arm strength. On the mound he has solid mechanics and his fastball flashes glove side movement. His arm works well on the mound and he has some arm strength with more to come. His curveball needs to continue to develop but could end up being a very solid pitch.
