Jake Hermsen is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'0'', 188 lb. frame from New London, WI who attends New London HS. He has a live athletic body with some present strength. We'd seen Hermsen more as a left handed pitching prospect in the past and have seen him 85-88 on the mound. He is definitely a quality outfield prospect as well. Hermsen ran 6.78 and threw 90 mph from the outfield with strong one hop throws on the bag. He has a quick arm and gets rid of the ball well. Hermsen is a switch hitter but the left side ironically looked new to him. From the right side Hermsen hit from acrouched wide stance with a quick line drive swing. He stayed on breaking balls well, keeping his weight and hands back and hit a couple hard up the middle. From the left side, Hermsen had significantly less bat speed and was pretty much just feeling for the ball. Given his previous showings on the mound, Hermsen is definitely a two-way prospect at the next level. He is a good student.

Jake Hermsen is a 2008 LHP/OF with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from New London WI, who attends New London HS. He has a medium build with some present strength that he can build on. Hermsen throws from a high energy delivery and pulls his head and upper body off the plate pretty hard at release. It's comparible to a Mitch Williams type delivery, except Hermsen keeps his lower body on line a bit more than Williams did. Hermsen hides the ball very well with these mechanics and has a short, quick arm stroke. Hitters flat just don't see the ball. His 83-84 mph fastball exploded past hitters consistently, especially up in the zone. Hermsen's CB was nasty at times, with a hard downer break at 72 mph and he had better CB command than he did of his FB. It will be a strikeout pitch for him at the next level. He mixed in a few change ups but the CB was his weapon and his unusual delivery adds to his effectiveness more than it seems to detract from his command. Hermsen showed some ability with the bat as well. He's a very patient and selective hitter who has a pull approach and a power oriented swing with some bat speed. He is also a good student.
