Eduardo Mendiola is a well put together athletic looking 6'2/185 3B from Miami, FL. About the only thing that Mendiola doesn’t do well is run. He has a strong line drive bat and is a top notch defensive defender at third base with a plus MLB arm. He has outstanding defensive actions and can make the high light plays at 3B. He showed a real good loose swing that hits LDs to all fields. He hits with good gap power now and projects to hit HRs at the next level. He's a highest level college player and a very good student. He could create some serious draft interest with a big spring with the bat.

Eduardo Mendiola -- Mendiola is a junior third baseman from Miami with a pro style body and some professional grade tools as well. Mendiola is 6-1, 185 lbs and looks lean and quick, which he is. He won’t have many peers on defense in the the Class of 2005. Mendiola is quick and sure handed and has a rifle arm across the infield. At the plate, Mendiola has a comfortable, quiet approach with a good load and a short, powerful swing. He hits down through the ball and gets very good back spin, which makes them carry farther than you’d expect. He’s a line drive hitter now but he’s going to hit more than his share of home runs in the future. Mendiola also took a short one inning turn on the mound and not surprisingly threw 85-86 mph with excellent sinking and running action. Mendiola’s actions and demeanor on the field are calm and confident; he looks like the game comes very naturally to him. He should get lots of high level college interest and even MLB scouts are going to follow him. He’s a good student, too.
