Edmond Sparks is a 2007 C with a 5'11'', 195 lb. frame from Hampton, Georgia, who attends Lovejoy HS. Edmond has a strong athletic build and put up outstanding numbers during the workout. At the plate Edmond is very strong with good bat speed and a nice line-drive swing plane. He has a patient approach at the plate and the ball will really jump off his bat at times. His raw power projects quite well and he had one of the best batting practices at the showcase. Behind the plate Edmond has only been catching for a year now, but he showed the tools to be a very good catcher at the next level. His arm strength is outstanding and he just needs to improve his footwork. He has very good makeup and with coaching Edmond will be a very good college catcher. Edmond is a player that will attract the attention of many high-level Division I programs as well as some pro interest.

Edmond Sparks is a 2007 C/3B with a 5'11'', 195 lb. frame from Hampton GA, who attends Lovejoy HS. He has a wide shouldered, very heavily muscled upper half and a leaner, looser lower half. Sparks has exceptional arm strength, throwing 86 mph from behind the plate in drills. His release is very long and involved, so his best pop time was only 1.93. Picture football QB Phil Leftwich of Jacksonville and that's what Sparks throwing action looks like behind the plate. Sparks has relatively limited catching experience, having played third base much of the time, and is still refining his technique, but he's made lots pof progress the past few months defensively. Offensively, Sparks hits from a wide stance with low, tight hands. He has good coil and load and creates very good raw bat speed. His low hand position left him behind high velocity fastballs during the games and is something that he'll have to be aware of. Sparks has bat head skills and the ball comes off his bat hard with a different sound than most hitters make. Overall, Sparks is raw in many skill areas but he has excellent tools. Another thing in his favor is that Sparks is a very hard worker who really plays like he enjoys the game. Sparks has committed to the University of Georgia.
