Kohl is a 5 sport athlete that attended the Midwest showcase as a pitcher only due to the State Championship track meet. He normally plays outfield in addition to pitching and is a tremendous athlete on the baseball field in either role. He ran a 6.90 showing low effort which was one of the slowest times we have seen out of him. As a Left-handed pitcher, he took the mound and showed 83-86 mph velocity with good life. His knuckle-curve was 74-76 with a hard and late break. His change-up came in consistently at 73 mph and he effectively used all 3 pitches on the corners. His delivery was easy and his arm is fast. He showed the same life on his change-up as his fastball and he looked the part of a competitive College pitcher. He missed all the bats he faced.

Kohl is one of the top unsigned senior prospects in the Midwest. He is a plus runner with outstanding athleticism and he is a 2-way division 1 baseball talent. He is a 4 tool player with a very athletic body at 5 foot 11 and 165 pounds. As a Left-hander on the mound he has a fast arm that works very good and smooth. He is a 4 sport star coming off football and basketball seasons and just beginning his baseball training 1 week before entering this showcase. We mention this because he came into the Indoor showcase and took the mound looking close to mid-season form. He showed a consistent 83-85 mph lively fastball and hit his spots. His fastball alone was difficult to hit. He also showed a 74-76 mph curveball and a 73-76 mph change-up. Both of those off-speed pitches were excellent with a good looking arm action and nice ball action. He also threw a couple knuckleballs at 76 mph that were filthy and nearly impossible to hit cleanly. He shows a competitive aspect to every part of his game and he likes to win. He also has a good left-handed swing with line-drive hitting ability and impact baserunning speed. He is a legitimate left-handed lead-off threat. Many division 1 schools have expressed interest in Kohl for both football and baseball and we think the College that ends up signing him will get one of the steals of their 2003 recruiting class.

Kohl is a top athlete who can do many things on a baseball field. Get a better look at him during the summer, but he's a DI prospect, for sure.
