Mitchell Ferrel is a 2010 C/P/SS with a 5'10", 135 lb frame from Van Vleck, TX who attends Van Vleck HS. Mitchell has a young lean build with a lot of room to add strength. At the plate Mitchell has a line-drive swing plane and likes to turn on the ball. He has a pretty solid swing, but needs to make sure he doesn't bail out on any pitches. When he keeps his eye on the ball he is very solid, but when he pulls off does have much of a chance on the outside pitch. Behind the plate Mitchell shows a solid release and transfer, but is pretty raw in terms of his receiving skills. He has an accurate arm and should see a lot of improvement as his arm gets stronger. On the mound Mitchell has a short arm action and gets good run and sink on his fastball. He shows an 11 to 5 curveball, but overall is pretty raw in terms of pitchability. Mitchell is a player that could attract the attention of some colleges in a few years.
