Shay Schanaman is a 2018 SS/RHP with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Hastings, NE who attends Grand Island HS. Medium athletic build with some present strength and room for more. Two-way prospect who evaluated higher at this event on the mound. Very low effort and simple mechanics on the mound, mid 3/4's arm slot, arm is loose and easy coming through. Steady 88-89 mph fastball, threw strikes and worked ahead in counts. Change up had big sinking action and fade with an occasional slower body through release. Slider has good shape and spin. Starter profile with potential plus command of three solid pitches. Right handed hitter, open stance, keeps his hands tight, swings hard and will pull off his front side early, has raw bat speed and some power potential. Showed quick and compact actions at shortstop and made accurate throws with good carry. Very interesting rural Nebraska prospect. Excellent student.
