Peyton Stephens is a 2016 OF/RHP, IF with a 5-10 195 lb. frame from Carlisle, IA who attends Carlisle. Medium frame, solid build with present strength. Right handed hitter with a slightly open stance and high hand set. Shows a short, compact plane to contact with good strength through extension. Mid-field, pull side approach with present gap power to pull side. Bat path creates natural loft that generates ball in air contact. Swing has stiff actions at times. Plus present strength at contact with the ability to split gaps. Extended gap power will develop with future strength. Defensively worked from the outfield showing a clean, high energy release that produces online carry and accuracy, topped at 85 mph. Athletic actions through transition with a large crow hop that creates plus direciton into throws. Also pitched, showing rotational mechanics from an 3/4 arm slot that are easily repeatable. Pauses at balance with a tendecy to drift to an open landing spot on release. Only saw a fastball that ranged 76-79 mph, topped at 80 mph. Locates fastball at the bottom of the zone. Tools will continue to develop. Good student.
