Saenz is a 5-7 outfielder from Illinois with a mature body and look to him and some present strength. He hits with an exaggerated loft/upper cut in his swing and did a good job in batting practice putting a charge into a few balls and showing his raw bat speed. Saenz is a 7.44 runner who showed a very strong arm with good accurate carry during the outfield drills. He also took a 2 inning turn on the mound and showed impressive stuff as well. He had an 81-83 mph fastball and a 68-70 mph curveball that had very tight spin and sharp breaking action. Saenz will definitely get some outs at the high school level and maybe even the college level with his present stuff.

David Saenz is a 2006 OF/RHP from Marengo, Illinois, with a strong build at 5'7", 170 pounds. He is very muscular with a mature body, and lots of raw strength. He hits from a wide stance, with his weight way back in his stance, and very busy hands. He generates huge bat speed which gets him a little bit off balance, and he has a high finish. Saenz has good power to the pull side. He runs decent with a 7.33 in the 60, and he covers a lot of ground in the outfield. He showed good arm strength from the outfield with accuracy and carry. He tends to be a bit stiff and mechanical on the mound because he is so strong. He has short arm action in back, and hides the ball well from hitters. His fastball is a little straight, (79-81 mph), and his 11-5 curve ball showed good bite at times at 64-67 mph.

David is an '06 OF/P from Mrengo, IL. From the field he shows good feet and hands with some arm strength at 80mph from OF. At the plate he hits with high hands into a long swing that needs to shorten some. We feel power potential will improve with a shorter stroke and improved bat speed. On the mound he flashes some arm strength for a small guy with an 82mph FB that he spots well. He likes to work low in the strike zone. He throws an average HS CV at 67mph with a 68mph CH as his out pitches. He could be a college two way player.

Saenz is an "06" OF/RHP from Marengo, IL. At 5'7/160 he may not be tall but he is very strong. We would like to see him outdoors to get a better feel for his overall athletic ability. He showed an aggressive swing and real good power potential. He might even over swing a bit at times. It's always better to attack the ball than to be defensive about hitting. He showed very good arm strength from the mound, especially for a sophomore. He was around the mid 80s with a good compact delivery. He only threw out of the stretch and showed a decent breaking ball around 70 mph and a real good 71 mph changeup that he commanded very well. David will be an interesting sophomore to follow.

Saenz is a compact young athlete at 5-6, 160 with a pretty live body and a high energy approach to the game. His best tool by far is his arm strength. Seanz showed us big league average arm strength in drills, throwing 84 mph from the outfield, then backed it up by throwing 81-83 mph off the mound. His best pitch, though, was a 70 mph curveball that had good bite and that Saenz spotted in the strike zone wherever and whenever he wanted to. For a 2006 pitcher, he’s going to be able to get a ton of outs very quickly right now. He showed a nice swing that dragged just a bit with the wood. David is an "06" to follow closely.
