Derek Pena is a 2008 2B with a 5'7'', 150 lb. frame from Miami, Florida, who attends Miami Christian High School. Derek has good fundamentals and just needs too add some bulk to his frame. At the plate Derek has a short line-drive swing plane and he keeps his hands inside the ball well. He has good swing fundamentals with nice bat head skills and really just needs to get stronger at the plate. In the field Derek has nice tools for a second baseman. He has good hands with clean actions. His body control is good and he has nice arm strength for his size. Derek is a solid student that should attact the attention of many small to mid-level college programs.
