2006 Mid-Atlantic Top Prospect Showcase
Drew Shaw is a 2008 LHP/1B that attends Pope Paul IV HS and resides in Fairfax, VA with a 6'2", 195 lb. frame. Drew has a tall strong build and showed a good feel for how to pitch. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with a short compact arm action and was able to retire every batter he faced at the showcase. Drew showed solid command with good run on his fastball but seems to choke the ball some causing him to velocity. While he has a good feel for pitching Drew will need to develop his off-speed pitches. At the plate Drew showed good upside with good present strength. He has some bat wrap and will need to adjust his approach, but there is plenty of potential. Defensively, Drew looked great at first base. He has clean actions with good footwork and nice arm strength. Drew has the potential to be a solid two-way prospect at a mid to high-level college program.
