Mike Recchia is a 2007 RHP with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from Crestwood IL, who attends Alan B. Shepard HS. He has a present strong build with good physical maturity. Recchia uses his strong hips and lower half well in his delivery and has a sound delivery and standard 3/4's release point. His fastball was 87-89, touch 90 mph and was mostly pretty straight. Recchio likes to pitch up in the strike zone with his fastball and will get hitters to swing at pitches up out of the strike zone. He can do this because his out pitch is a nasty 77 mph curveball that has a big and very sharp bite and deep downer break. Recchio's curveball is one of the best you'll see at this level when you consider the spin, velocity and his ability to command the pitch. We didn't see a change up. Recchio isn't especially projectable but he has a lot of ingredients that should make him immediately successful at the college level. That curveball is the great equalizer and could carry him a long way. Follow him carefully. Recchio is also a good student.
