Daniel Ballard is a 5'8", 150 lb. middle infielder from Mobile, Alabama, with 7.13 sixty speed. In the infield workout, he showed some arm strength throwing 76 mph from shortstop. Daniel had fair actions, but tends to field the ball too deep and close to his body. His tools will play better at second base on the next level. He has nice transfers and can get rid of the ball quickly on the turn. Daniel is a right handed hitter with a medium stance and average bat speed. Ballard has a line drive swing plane with good hand strength and good balance. He's feasts on balls in the middle of the plate. When Ballard gets more lower half involvement, he should realize some added power potential at the plate. Daniel is an outstanding student.

Daniel Ballard is a 2005, 5'8" infielder from Mobile, AL, who is a very good player with a nice approach to the game. He has a simple, level swing and made consistent line drive contact in BP and in games, where he was 3-6. Ballard lacks big time power potential, but is going to get on base, and with his speed and hustling approach he is a very good base runner. Defensively, Ballard has some good skills to play second base. Nice soft, quick hands and good feet. His arm will play at 2B. Daniel is an excellent student.

Daniel Ballard is a 2005, 5'8" middle infielder from Mobile, AL. His best present tool is his speed. He’s a 7.25 " on a slow track" runner whose feet work very well moving from side to side on defense. He has nice hands and good overall actions and instincts. Ballard has a low waist with strong legs and a more slender upper half. He hits from a wide stance at the plate with good overall balance and he shows the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Ballard tends to cut off his swing early, which affects his ability to drive the ball. He is an excellent student.

Daniel Ballard -- Ballard is a very slender junior second baseman from Alabama. Someone has done a very good job of teaching this young man good baseball fundamentals because he knows how to play. Ballard has a live and quick lower body and does a nice job with his hands on defense. At the plate, Ballard uses a very quiet, no load, no stride approach and trusts his hands to get the bat head to the ball. Obviously his hands work well because Ballard had a very high percentage of balls both in games and batting practice that he hit right on the nose. We’d like to see him get more lower half involvement in his swing but what he’s doing now looks like it works pretty well, too. Overall, Ballard is a nice player with a lot of skills and some good tools for his position. Daniel is an excellent student.

Ballard is a not so big second baseman who we think will turn into a real good College player at the very least. At 5 foot 7 and 140 pounds he can play with some strength. Naturally he has room for more strength but in Waco he showed a good arm with 75 mph velocity on his throw and some surprising pop with a wood bat. There was no question that his hands are good as an infielder and he showed good quick feet and nice speed. He ran a 7.2 and he will end up quicker in the 60. He is athletic and potentially strong with the bat. He used his upper half dominantly in batting practice and stiffened his arm a bit through his swing but to handle the wood as well as he did at his age and size was promising.

Only an "05" he will grow much stronger. He runs OK and moves well in the infield. Nice swing, could turn into a strong hitter over the next couple years.
