Federer is a strong 6-1, 220 lb left handed hitting first baseman from Florida who also has some experience catching. He ran the 60 in 7.86 and threw 74 during infield drills from first base. He showed nice hands and defensive skills at first base during the games. Federer hits from a no load, no stride open stance that’s much more usual to see on a smaller contact style hitter. He shows some bat quickness, especially on inside pitches, and the ball comes off his bat well. His power should further develop when he makes some adjustments to his approach and gets some lower half involvement and leverage into his swing. Federer is a good student as well.

Federer is a 6-1, 220 lb senior first baseman from Tampa who has also caught some. He has a big, thick strong body that has reached maturity. Federer ran the 60 in 7.77 and threw 73 mph from first base during drills. He hits out of a balanced approach at the plate and uses his strength to overpower the ball with little backside involvement. Federer showed the ability to hit the ball from gap to gap with some authority and there is more power that is waiting to be unleashed with some adjustments Federer is also a very good student.

Craig Federer is a 2006 left handed hitting first baseman from Tampa, FL, with well above average strength for his age. It looks like he could grind a little sawdust off the bat handle with his strong hands. While Federer generates good bat speed and can make the ball jump on contact, he’s going to have to revamp his approach to take full advantage of his natural talent. Right now he hits out of a wide stance with little lower body movement and just leans back and swings. Get Federer some rhythm and balance in his swing and he’s going to really lose some baseballs with both metal and wood. Defensively, Federer lacks some mobility, but showed very soft hands and good balance at first base and will be an asset to his infielders over at first base. He's a good student and has a chance to be a big time power hitting prospect.
