Jacob Raffaele is a 2009 LHP/1B with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from Carlsbad, CA who attends La Costa Canyon HS. He has a strong and physical body on a large frame. Raffaele has a low effort and short arm action that works from a high 3/4 slot. His mechanics are good with good rhythm. He is big and strong but not yet a hard thrower. His fastball (79-80 mph) had some run and occasional sink when he got to extension. As his outing went along, Raffaele got better. Though he did not show a curveball he did throw a changeup with some feel (71 mph). As he settled in Raffaele started to throw a lot of strikes and got a lot of ground balls. Offensively he showed some promise as well. His approach is quiet and the ball got off his bat well. He has a flat swing and good plate coverage, allowing him to bang the ball hard to the opposite field. Raffaele is a solid student and should be followed as a college prospect.

Jacob Raffaele is a 2009 LHP/1B with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from Carlsbad CA, who attends LaCosta Canyon HS. Jacob has a nice strong build with long limbs and showed solid two-way potential at the showcase. On the mound Jacob has a low effort delivery and throws with a short arm action. He has an online delivery and his arm works well producing nice armside run on his fastball. His change-up has nice sinking action and he also shows a solid 1 to 7 downer curveball. Jacob's body would indicate that there is a lot of room to increase his velocity. At the plate Jacob makes consistent solid contact but can get a little too long with his swing at times, causing a few others parts of his swing to go array. Once he shortens up and keeps his hands inside the ball longer he should have a much more consistent approach at the plate. At first base he has a good feel around the bag with soft hands. He appears to be very comfortable in the field and should make an above average defender. Jacob is a solid student that could attract attention from many mid to higher-level college programs in a few years.
