Michael Wells is a 2010 C/3B/2B with a 5'9'', 155 lb. frame from Niceville, FL who attends Niceville HS. He has a young medium frame and developing strength. Wells threw 74 mph during drills with a best pop time of 2.04. He has very good arm strength for his age and it will get better when he gets his direction better towards where he is throwing. Wells hands work well and he has smooth transfers and looks comfortable behind the plate. At the plate, Wells is a left handed hitter with a square, balanced stance that is slightly closed. He uses his hands to hit and has a short, quick swing that takes the bat head straight to the ball. Wells doesn't have much lower half in his swing and doesn't extend through the ball except when pulling the ball, so it's hard to project him to hit with much power. But he has the hand quickness and level swing to hit line drives around the field, especially as he gets stronger. Wells has a nice balance of tools and skills for his age and should be followed. He is also a good student.
