Thomas Saffell is a 2007 RHP/OF with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Westerville OH, who attends Westerville Central HS. He has a good athletic frame and some present strength. Saffell has a long arm action in back and a big leg swing delivery to offset it out front. He stays tall during his delivery and keeps his balance and a good downhill angle to the plate. Saffell's best pitch was a 74 mph curveball that had a deep, sharp bite and was filthy at times. He did a good job of throwing strikes with his curveball and pretty much dominated right handed hitters whenever he wanted to with the pitch. He'll get outs at the next level with just his curveball if he wants to. Saffell did seem a bit hesitant to throw the pitch to left handed hitters, though. His fastball was 81-83 mph and pretty straight and he had an idea how to use his fastball to set up his curveball. We didn't see a change up.
