Cody Martin is a 2007 RHP/1B with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Dos Palos CA, who attends Dos Palos HS. Selected as a Top Prospect in this event. Martin is a talented two-way prospect and at this point, it would be unfair to peg his future in the game. He has a broad, strong body type that serves him well as a pitcher and as a hitter, and there are more upper body size and strength gains in his future. On the mound he has a smooth, easy arm action, delivering the ball from a high 3/4 slot. He has very good mechanics and can spot all his pitches. His fastball topped at 86 and sat in the 84-86 range, though we have scouts that have seen him up to 88. In any case, he is not done gaining velocity. Martin has very good feel of his curveball and slider, both with plus spin. The slider at times has power tilt and can be a putaway pitch. The curveball is best as a set-up pitch, a complement to his fastball and slider. Martin has excellent mound presence and composure. At the plate he is a power hitting prospect, with legitimate middle of the field power. His power stroke actually plays best from center to right center and happens with an easy swing. He is a relaxed hitter and has hands that explode through contact. His timing is something that he is still honing, but he can hit and should do so for high average and above average power. At first base Martin works the bag well and has feel for defense, with an accurate arm and knowledge of the game. He has early committed to Gonzaga and should be checked in on from time to time by the pro scouts.
